2008.03.28 I'm finally finished with the first cut of the Web Site Statistics. You can see them by clicking on the button that is on the bottom right of the home page. You can select yearly or monthly statistics for 2006 to the current month
On the statistics page you can see the number of people (hosts) that have accessed the WestBankMC web site along with a bunch of other information. I've also taken the information from the last year and compiled it into a list of the countries, states and cities of the people, search engines and hackers/spammers that access the website.
Here are just a couple of items that may be of interest:
Browsers:
Internet Explorer 68.6 %;
Firefox 14.1 %;
Safari 12.7 %;
Mozilla 1.5 %;

2008.03.14 With change comes little unexpected side effects. This is probably only seen by people using Internet Explorer:
You may see the message (usually in the yellow box at the top of the browser window) that says:
"This webstite wants to run the following add-on: 'SVGControl Module 2.0' from 'Adobe Systems Incorporated (unverified publisher)'. If you trust the website and the add-on and want to allow to run it, click here....".
Simple: Go ahead and click to install. It is safe and v1.0 may already be installed if you've kept up with the updates.
SVG is built into Firefox and Opera browsers but not Internet Explorer. And no one uses NetScape/AOL or AOL/Netscape anymore to I did not test this - even on the old NS6, 7, 8 or the new NS9. Also Flock v1.1 was not tested.
OK; OK - I'll try NS9 right now... NS9 does not bring up the add-on install message.
Technical: (swiped from http://www.mozilla.org/projects/svg/):
SVG stands for Scalable Vector Graphics, and that it is an XML language for sophisticated 2-dimensional graphics.
SVG is to graphics what XHTML is to text. SVG is similar to Macromedia's proprietary Flash technology: among other things it offers anti-aliased rendering, pattern and gradient fills, sophisticated filter-effects, clipping to arbitrary paths, text and animations. What distinguishes SVG from Flash, is that it is a W3C recommendation (i.e. a standard for all intents and purposes) and that it is XML-based as opposed to a closed binary format. It is explicitly designed to work with other W3C standards such as CSS, DOM and SMIL.
Where is it?: C:\WINDOWS\System32\Adobe\SVG Viewer\SVGControl.dll, Adobe Systems Incorporated
Another error that sometimes comes up when opening a web page that has been saved on your local computer is: "A problem with this Web page might prevent it from being displayed properly or functioning properly..." The fix is to "Allow active content to run in files on My Computer" Internet Options on the Tools menu, in Advanced tab, under Security Allow active contend to run in files on My Computer The sollution is in Microsoft Article ID 934366: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/934366

2008.03.12 The ISP moved this site to a new server which should be a bit faster (not that any of us would notice). At this same time I had a few problems with my own systems that caused a number of files to be corrupted and may of the newly scanned newsletters and photo's to be lost - shame on me for not having a better backup system in place.
But the website still seems to be pretty stable as I have not received any complaints or noticed anything out of place myself.[the clicking on the logo got broken some time back. I'll fix it soon. ~hn 2008.03.12 WoW - Easy Fix. Somehow a line got mashed. Fixed...

2008.03.11 Finally got around to compiling and displaying a current set of web site statistics. I know there are a few (very few) interested in who is looking at the web site. Anyway, you can now see where these people are by city and country. Since the access to this site is via the internet not all of the computers that hit this site can be identified by the correct city and country.
If you look at the full listing of the hosts and countries you will see we have a wide audience. What you may not know is that many of those 'Hits' are from spammers and robots/zombie computers that only want to send out spam emails or steal the contents of the web site. Let me know if any of the stats interest you... but remember that this is a non-paying job...

Did you know:
By popular demand: Clicking on the upper left WBMC logo will cycle through the upper right pictures and ad's.
(So if you do a 1-mississippi; click, wait for it; 1-mississippi; click, Wait for it; you're pretty sure to see all ad's within a minute or two) - I'll work on making then cycle through in order on each click when I have a bit of spare time between other things. If the above doesn't work for you and you just have to wee them all drop me a note and I'll help you out. ~hn
Check out the SpeedFreak Safety Tips link at the bottom of the Safety page. (Ypu, you gotta go there)
The topper contains the sponsors ad's (and it is the sponsors that provide the monies for things like beginning of year and end of year parties and lots of trophys and prizes) along with interesting pictures of our members and events (which I will update over the winter). Anyone have any thoughts on this please share them with me.
Added bits and pieces here and there - guess I should have made a list and checked it twice. Oh well. I'm sure everyone will find them at some point in their life time...
Anyone out there that can do some 'proof reading' and provide feedback on errors found and on what pages? Also could use someone to check all the links on the Links page. Let me know which are bad, any that have been changed or redirected and/or new. worthwhile links that should be added...
Comeon - there must be someone out there that has nothing better to do that sit, drink and browse...
2007.12.17 Little by little things are coming together. Users should not see any major changes. Everything involves the underlying code to provide consistent displays across the popular browsers (Internet Explorer v6+, FireFox v2+, Opera v6+ and Netscape coming soon). The few people with Mac's will have to let me know what is not displaying properly.
I've finally turned the Dr. LockSprocket articles right-side-up since somebody (Mark K.) commented on this.
2007.12.12 Have had to do a few tweaks on the pages. If you notice display problems it's probably just me getting some of the underlying stuff back in line. I tried a couple of other color schemes and layouts but none have been much better than the current setup that it's not really worth it to make major changes. (did I mention that this is a non-paying job...)
2007.12.09 First set of pages replaced. This includes all 1st level pages (these are the pages directly accessed from the home page) and the 'Really old Newsletters' page accessed from the News page.
2007.12.07 I'm in the process of updating the web pages to utilize style sheets.
This will make it easier on me and provide better support for FireFox and Opera browsers.
I'm starting with the top level pages (those directly accessed from the home page) first.
After the top & second level stuff is in order, and I quite fooling around with various coding styles,
I'll be starting on the News Archives.
What does this mean to you, the browsers of this web site:
I'm certain that there will be 'broken links', missing pictures and malformed text from time to time; not to
mentioned background colors that will make it hard to read some pages.
If you are using FireFox or Opera, which will 'complain' about malformed tags and code before Internet Explorer, switch to Internet Explorer to see if that helps.
I will usually find the 'bad stuff' within a day or two but will get fixed faster if someone informs me of the problem.
Just send an email to the WebMaster with details of the page the problem appears. A screenshot is also very helpful....
