West Bank Motorcycle Club
April
2010 Newsletter
Hey everybody - look, it’s a newsletter.
Well, it’s the start of the 2010
riding season - the West Bank Motorcycle Club’s 41st year.
Saturday, April 24th was the first ride. The destination was Mark Cady’s house this year. A good time was had by all with lots of food & fun;
the weather cooperated as it has most of this spring.
Let’s give a big pat on the back to our outgoing officers and thank them for
making our club a success in the past year and let’s make this year even
better.
I’d like to welcome our new officers for this year:
Treasurer:
Milo Kendall
Secretary:
Claire Graham
Safety Directors: Jim Slechta and Mike Rodeck
Ambassadors: Mike Greene, Willy DuFour and Joe Geror
Newsletter Editor: Keith “Smoker” Efron
web master duties
will be supplied by harald for another year
I look forward to getting ride reports from the Road Captains so we have some
content for our newsletter, otherwise, I will have to fill it with what I want
to write about – You have been warned.
Send submissions to: Keith Efron, 8456 Cty Rd 11, Breezy Point, MN 56472
There has been a lot of talk about
riding safety so let’s make it happen. We really need to be more aware of
how we ride in formation. We should be riding in a staggered line with
enough room between riders to maneuver, without running into the rider next to
you. Use your turn signals and/or hand signals, no darting in and out of
the lanes. If you need to break from the group, pull out, move to the
right, and let everyone go by.
Road Captains: please
pre-ride your route, in full, just prior to your ride to make sure there won’t
be any unexpected problems. Confirm with your tail-gunner that they have looked
at the map and/or directions and fully understand them so they know where the
ride is going.
Corner Markers: please stay
at your corners until the tail-gunner signals you to proceed and then pull in
at the end of the group. The only way the group will get to the
destination together is if the corners are marked.
Tail-gunners: you need to
know where you are going. Please confirm with the Road Captain on how to
get to the destination and don’t deviate from the route set forth by the Road
Captain.
It is our club and we have
used these methods for years and they work very well if we all do our
part. We will all get to the destinations safely and have a wonderful
ride on some of the most beautiful roads in Minnesota and Wisconsin.
Please, for the good of
motorcycling in general, when we are out as a group, refrain from cracking your
pipes, excessive speed, ignoring laws and acting stupid. We all know what
I am talking about. Last year, on “Hurricane McCabe’s” ride, I was
assaulted with a watering can by an irate homeowner in North Oakes. He
missed me by a mile but next time his aim may be better, and someone will get
hurt.
Well, that is all I have so
far. Look for the next newsletter at the end of May. Remember, this
is your newsletter, and I need your ride reports so they will make it into the
newsletter. I will warn you if I don’t get a ride report from the Road
Captains. You will get one from me whether or not I went on the ride or
not and it will be funny, people will point and laugh at you, and you will be
sorry.
Thanks, Smoker
