The West Bank Motorcycle Club rides from the last Saturday in April through the end of September. To ride with us, you must have a motorcycle endorsement on your license and you must be insured. This is the law in Minnesota.
Ride Times:
The West Bank Motorcycle Club rides at 6:30 PM on Wednesdays and 12:00 PM on Saturdays. Ride times may be changed to 10:00 AM on Saturdays with at least 2 weeks notification to the club Secretary. Rides will be posted in the monthly newsletter and on our web site - WestBankMC.org
--- We ride rain or shine ---
Ride Credit:
To receive a ride credit you must be a current paid member. You must be on a motorcycle. You must sign-in at the ride destination. If the destination will exceed the mileage limits, (50 mi. on Wednesday, and approximately 90 mi. on Saturday), a sign-in location will be offered at those limits. The sign-in counts for ride credits that go towards year patches and trophies.
The sign-in:
A sign-in sheet will be started by the Road Captain. The Road Captain will have the responsibility of seeing to it that the sign-in sheet gets into the hands of the club Secretary.
If you can not ride with the club. You can go to the sign-in location or the destination for ride credit. (You can not arrive before the Road Captain.) To verify that you made it. You must show a receipt dated before 11:59 PM of the same day, or be witnessed by a fellow member at one of those locations. For ride credit you must give the information to the club Secretary in a timely manner.
Ride credit:
Credit will be given at designated family campouts when you show up on 4 or more wheels. This is extended to allow everyone to bring family members, camping gear, food, etc.
Safety:
The WBMC has rules designed to make our rides safe and therefore enjoyable for all.
We ride in two columns in one traffic lane, not side-by-side, but staggered, maintaining a safe distance between and around, allowing enough room to let 4-wheel traffic in and out of the group. Remember these people are in a hurry to get home from work and may make irrational decisions.
Road Captain:
The Road Captain is in charge of their ride and the destination of the ride. They must be a paid-up member to lead a ride. He or she will have designed a route, made up the maps, and will signal other riders to mark corners during the ride. The Road Captain is the first bike in line. The Road Captain should Pre-Ride the route, inform establishment that we will be arriving at their place, so that they are not surprised and unprepared for our arrival. (Rides that go to parks, members house’s, etc must have a pop stop for refreshments.) Provided at the RC’s expense will be 70-80 Wednesday route and destination maps, and at least 20 Saturday maps. The RC must be certain destination is compatible with the club, see that rides leave at or near the designated times. The RC will appoint a Tail Rider. It is the responsibility of the RC to obtain an orange Tail Rider vest (usually from the Treasurer or the Secretary) for use by the Tail Rider.
The RC will direct the Corner markers to mark the corners by use of hand signals. Hand signals consist of a left hand clinched fist raised over ones head, with the same return response from the person marking the corner. RC will maintain a speed that will allow the riders to stay together. RC will start the sign-in and be responsible for the sign-in sheet until it is turned over to the Secretary. The RC will also be responsible to fill out a brief ride description for the newsletter.
Corner Marker:
If you are riding near the Road Captain, be prepared to serve as a Corner Marker. When the RC raises his clinched fist over his head, you return the signal with same response to tell the RC and the other riders you are marking the corner. RC may designate a specific place for you to stop, do so if you feel it can be done safely. Leave your turn signal on to indicate the direction of travel of the group. Corner markers must stay at there location until the Tail-rider signals them to leave the mark, then do so when it is safe to pull into traffic and fall in line with the group ahead of the Tail Rider. If you leave your mark before the Tail-rider arrives, the rest of the group will still be heading straight, and miss the turn. If you are new or uncomfortable being a Corner marker stay to the rear of the ride, or wave others to go ahead of you.
Tail Rider:
Tail rider will line up at the front of the ride starting point. This is done so everyone will see who you are, and be looking for you. The Tail rider will be wearing the orange safety vest. You will wait there when the RC leads the ride out and fall into line when the last bike in line has gone by. Do not wait for those who are not in line. Tail rider will hold back when approaching corner markers so they can see you. Signal them with a light horn or a wave, to let them know it is OK for them to fall back in line. If you have corners that are close together, you may signal a marker away from the corner and mark it yourself until your other corner marker(s) catch up, then continue picking up Corner markers. Tail rider will also repeat the above when the ride leaves the pop-stop. The Tail rider does not stop if someone breaks down, always stay with the ride.
While riding:
- Do not ride in front of, or pass the Road Captain. Also, do not pass others in the group unless they are pulling off to mark a corner.
- Do not ride near the Road Captain, unless you are willing to mark the corners.
- Do not leave the corner you are marking, until the Tail Rider signals you to do so.
- Do not ignore the Tail Rider. By this we mean, pay attention when marking a corner, so you will see the TR’s signal to rejoin the ride. If a friend waits with you while you are marking a corner, make sure he/she does not interfere with your job, and cause you to hold up the ride.
- Do not zoom past others to your former position, after marking a corner. You are to rejoin the ride at the TR’s signal, by pulling in behind the rest of the group, but just in front of the TR.
- Do not do burnout's, ride in and out of the group, or any other unsafe behavior. These are a threat to the club’s safety, and will not be tolerated.
If you bring friends along to ride with us, you are responsible for their behavior and for informing them of these rules. If friends are in a car, they should follow the safe distance behind the ride or take an alternate route. Cars and motorcycles are not a safe mix.
If you cannot follow these rules then please don't ride with the group. Racing and other unsafe behavior should be kept off the streets. Remember, when you ride with the group, you represent all bikers, whether you like it or not, to the non-motorcycling public.
Our club doesn't care what you ride, only that you ride safely.
Behavior:
If a members behavior is not to WBMC expectations i.e. fighting, dangerous riding habits during or at the posted destination, or for any reason that may be deemed detrimental to the WBMC, tt is the responsibility of the Safety Director to respond to the complaints about riding behavior. He/she will be informed of proper WBMC riding style in a non-confrontational manor. If further problems continue or is deemed of a serious nature he/she may be put on probation for a period to be determined by the club officers. If further problems continue, he/she may be asked to leave the club and not return. If this happens, it is a decision to be made by all the available club officers. The Treasurer will not return the offender's dues, the offender will be informed that they are no longer welcome and to not return to the WBMC.
The Treasurer will offer to purchase offender's back patch (one only), if applicable.
